Crater Foundation History

The Crater Foundation is a non profit organization established in 1992 to assist students in School District #6. The Crater Foundation is recognized by the State of Oregon as a non-profit organization and has tax excempt status under IRS section 501(C)(3). The Foundation tax identification number is 93-10761-30.

The main emphasis is in the area of scholarships: every graduating senior from Crater High School who requests it receives scholarship assistance. Since 2000, the Crater Foundation has awarded over 1200 scholarships totaling more than $1,200,000. In the year 2006 the Foundation awarded 203 scholarships.

In the area of human resources, the Foundation provides financial aid in many ways. Needy students and families have received money for coats, shoes, school supplies, specific classroom materials, testing fees, graduation announcements, and special athletic needs. Assistance is also available to district schools for special building projects and athletic facility improvements.

Additionally, the Foundation supports an alumni association and mails a newsletter three times a year to approximately 8800 alumni.

All funding comes from individuals, families, businesses, organizations, alumni and district employees. To supplement these generous donations there are two fundraising activities during the year, a Community/Parent Dessert Auction, and a Pepsi booth at the Jackson County Fair. Both events are operated by volunteers.
