CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT TO TOP

Student Handbook...

All school rules and policies published in the student handbook apply.

Tardies...

No more than two tardy entries to class per trimester period. Forgetting materials in a locker will be treated as a tardy.

  • 2rd tardy – phone call home
  • 3rd tardy – referral to the Dean of Students
  • Successive infractions result in additional referrals. See student handbook for referral progression.

Three strike rule...

Students get two warnings per day for inappropriate behavior. A third strike will be treated in the following manner.

  • 1st time - phone call home
  • 2nd time - referral to the Dean of Students
  • Successive infractions result in additional referrals. See student handbook for referral progression.

Hall passes...

Students, particularly 6th graders, need to learn to use their passing time wisely. Get a drink of water or use the facilities during passing time...not during class time. Bringing water bottles to class is fine (no sugary drinks). We understand "nature calls" occasionally at inopportune moments, so students are allowed 5 passes per trimester without consequence. Using all passes forgoes the chance for extra credit points for each unused pass.

GRADING AND LATE WORK TO TOP

Grading...

We use the standard A-F grading scale with the following ranges.

90-100% = A
80-89% = B
70-79% = C
60-69% = D
0-59% = F

Students having an IEP may receive Pass/No Pass grades.

Late work and no name papers

Students are responsible for making up work/tests they miss because of absences. All due dates and quiz/test dates are on the monthly calendar. They will be allowed reasonable extensions of due dates or make up quizzes/tests for long term illness or absence.

Late work not excused by long term absence or parent/guardian notification of extenuating circumstances will be awarded 60% credit provided it meets standards for a passing grade.

Missing work reports will be issued every Friday. Students must have these signed by a parent/guardian and returned with the missing work attached.

On the occasion that a grade has not been entered in the grade book and a student has saved the work, as they have been intructed to do, they only need to show it to me and the grade will be changed on the spot.

Students in 6th grade experience "amnesia" in epic proportions. Some simply can't remember their name when it's time to turn the assignment in. Some may find it hard to believe, but there are 6th grade students who are not above putting their name on work they did not do and claiming it as their own. The best way to avoid this trend is to have students re-do the assignment.

Math Homework:

The purpose of math homework is to practice the concepts. Each assignment is worth 3 points. To get a perfect score of 3/3 a student must:

Head the paper correctly
Record the % correct in the upper right hand corner
Score at least 70% on the paper.

If a score of 3/3 is not attained ANY student may resubmit a paper with corrections made, staple the original to the back and hand it in for an new score. The same applies for math tests, though a student may need to make an appointment to retake the test.

Extra Credit and Re-Do

Extra credit is occasionally offered to offset low test scores. However, no extra credit will be accepted when a student has any missing assignments.

Re-doing an assgnment for a better grade is allowed IF the assignment was handed in on time. Late work can not be done again for a better grade.

COMMUNICATION TO TOP

Class progress reports...

Progress reports for geography are sent out every three weeks. It is the responsibility of the student to carry that report between teacher and parent/guardian. Failure to do so with sufficient reminders will result in a referall to the Dean of Students.

Report cards and progress reports...

Progress reports are sent out at six weeks (mid-trimester) and report cards at the end of each trimester. Students must get these signed and returned.
